March 10, 2010 Good morning all! I hope your week is
going well and that you are celebrating God’s blessings in your life.
We will have a very special guest speaker on Sunday, 3/14.
Our own Annie G. will be giving the sermon. The title is “I Am a
Light”. Please come, welcome, and support Annie. Our
journey to Easter continues tonight with the Prayer Service and Soup
Supper at Bellevue Christian Church (10808 SE 28th St, Bellevue, 98004).
Tonight’s service will feature the use of the “Lectio Divina” prayer
form. “It is from the Latin for divine reading. A
traditional Christian practice of praying with Scripture that calls one
to study, ponder, listen and finally, pray and even sing and rejoice
from God’s Word, within the soul.” The Soup Supper begins at 6:30
and is followed by the service. Tomorrow, 3/11, there will be a
memorial service at the church for Jerry Reber. Anita (Fullwiler),
Jerry’s wife, attended LWCC in 1986 and 1987 before moving to Nebraska
with Jerry. She has extended an invitation to everyone who
remembers her to the service that begins at 4 PM. The LWCC
Piecemakers will be celebrating National Quilting Day early this
Saturday, 3/13. If you are interested in helping make some baby
blankets for Children’s Hospital be at the church about 10 AM. We
will meet in the nursery. Bring your cutting and sewing supplies.
We will be using both levels. On Sunday, 3/21, we will celebrate
the upcoming arrival of James and Jenny S. baby boy with a Baby Shower
after worship. They are registered at Babies “R” Us, registry #
44827275. Celtic-Christian Celebration - A prayerful gathering
to welcome the spring equinox will take place in our church sanctuary
beginning at 4 p.m. on March 21. The event will be facilitated by Eileen
Knoff, M.A., spiritual director on the Eastside, and founder of Brigid's
CircleŽ, a ministry dedicated to deepening understanding of the
Celtic-Christian perspective through prayer and education. The
ministry offers a monthly online reflective sequence and physical
gatherings like this one to celebrate important moments on the Celtic
calendar. Celtic-Christian spirituality honors the two legs of
revelation--Scripture and creation—and encourages attention to both for
a fuller life. You can learn more about this ministry of Brigid's
CircleŽ, and Eileen as spiritual director and founder of the ministry,
at
www.spiritualdirections.net. ALL ARE WELCOME to experience a
bit of the Celtic perspective on life and faith through this gathering.
Thursday evening, 3/18, at 6:30 you are invited to a meeting
regarding the Norkirk Neighborhood Program. This meeting will be
at LWCC and the topics will include participation in the neighborhood
garage sale and other ways LWCC can become a part of and get known in
our new community. On Tuesday, 3/23, the LWCC Book Club will
gather at the home of Mike and Toni L. to discuss “Bulletproof Faith”,
by Candace Chellew-Hodge. The discussion will begin at 7 PM.
This group picks very diverse and interesting books and anyone
interested is invited to attend. “Get’er Done!” We have
had a great response from you for our Holy Grounds maintenance plan.
There are still more spots available if you would like to help keep our
new home looking good. The property has been divided into zones
with families and individuals taking responsibility for maintaining
their zone. The sign-up sheet and zone map are on the table in the
foyer. To get this program started we are having our Annual Spring
Clean-up Party on Saturday, 3/27. We will begin work around 9 AM.
Any time you can give will be greatly appreciated. There will be
tasks both inside and out and for all skill levels. Bring your
yard tools and gloves. AND remember your smile!
Our congregation continues to become more aware about Scent
Sensitivity and I am looking for material that you can access to become
educated about this affliction. We have several members of our
congregation that have this condition and in order to provide them with
a comfortable space we are asking that you consider them before you put
on your perfume, hair spray, or cologne on Sunday morning. It’s a
wonderful goal to remove all barriers to full participation in the life
of LWCC. More information about chemical sensitivities and worship
can be found at:
http://www.uua.org/leaders/idbm/accessibility/disability101/chemicalsensitivities/index.shtml
Speaking of barriers and special circumstances please remember
that Anna R. is legally blind and it helps her if you identify who you
are when speaking to her. We also have several in our congregation
with significant hearing loss so please speak up when talking to them.
You still have time to sponsor Robert (Rob) Wham or the Teman/Stokke
family on the “Big Climb” on 3/21. You can go to
www.bigclimb.org, click on
“Donate”, and then search for the participants you would like to
sponsor. You can also sign up to sponsor Rob at church. The
money raised from the climb benefits the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
Our Holy Week events begin with Palm Sunday, 3/28, when the children
will process with the palms and we celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entrance
into Jerusalem. On Thursday, 4/1, at 7 PM we will combine with BCC
for the moving and meaningful Maundy Thursday service. The annual GKEP
sponsored “Walk of the Cross” will be on Good Friday. The service
will begin at noon in the St. John’s Episcopal sanctuary. The
Stations of the Cross walk will wind through downtown Kirkland to the
Marina Park. All these events lead up to the celebration of the
resurrection on Easter. Our service will start at 10:30 AM.
The sanctuary will be filled with the colors of spring and special music
will fill the room. I hope you will be able to join us for any or
all of these services. “Here comes Peter Cottontail…” The
annual LWCC Egg Hunt will follow worship (approx 11:45) on Easter.
Invite your friends and neighbors to join in this fun event.
Speaking of Easter and spring…you are invited to bring spring flowers to
help decorate the sanctuary for Easter. You can take them home for
your own decoration after service. Wow! I am getting more
long-winded every week. I hope you have found several areas of
interest and that you will feel welcome to participate in the events and
services of LWCC. Peace to you and yours, Martha
